Happy Birthday little man!

Happy Birthday William! I can't believe it's been three years since you came into this world. I remember pushing and then grabbing you and setting you on my chest. I remember not knowing what the heck was going on, what I was going to do with a baby. Everything about you was new to me. I know I didn't change one diaper in the hospital because I kept forgetting I was suppose to! And now three years later you're completely changed my life, for the better. Some days are hard, but most days are such a joy. You have such a good sense of humor and never cease to make us laugh. You remind me to take time to enjoy the little things in life. I love you big guy!!

Yes baby, I'm so proud of you!

Yesterday was a bit of a battle in our house. Will was home and had a bit of a cold and was being so whiney and needy. He literally was hanging off of my leg wherever I went and I couldn't get anything done. He hadn't pooped since Friday (it was Monday) so I kept getting out his little potty and telling him he had to go poop. He refused and said it would hurt. I told him he needed to go or it would hurt if he kept it in. I finally took his pull ups off and his pants so he was naked from the waist down. I knew if I left them on he would poop in them. He was crying like crazy, saying he wanted his pants back on. It was so frustrating, but I also knew the mood he was in that he would cry no matter what I did. So all morning was a battle. He finally went down for a nap and I started thinking about it and how it shouldn't have to be such a battle and I would start backing off of him in regards to pooping. Afterall, I figured, he wouldn't be pooping in his pants still in kindergarten, so don't get so worked up over it. He'll figure it out.

Well, he got up from his nap and things changed. He was doing the poop dance and kept holding his butt. I knew it was just a matter of time. But of course he still didn't want to go. I got his pants and pull up off and he was so upset. He just kept crying and kept saying he didn't want to go because it would hurt him. It was pretty heart breaking. I hated seeing him cry like that but I also knew the poop was on it's way. This went on for at least half an hour. Finally he really started dancing and I grabbed him and forced him on the potty. It started coming and he was still crying, but he got it all out. He jumped up with tears running down his face and kept asking me "mommy, are you proud of me?". Oh baby, you have no idea how proud I was! He was so proud of himself for being such a big boy. I have a feeling the battle is not over, but he did it. Let's just hope he does it again!

Bit of a scare last night

Last night Will was eating an ice cream sandwish and took too big of a bite. He tried to spit it out, which he always does, and I told him no, chew it up and eat it. Big mistake on my part because he didn't chew, he just swallowed. His eyes got big and he started gagging then craying. I grabbed him and started giving him the heimlich but nothing would come out. He was walking around in the kitchen looking at us with these big scared eyes. Neil grabbed him and tried doing the heimlich as well. He was still crying and scared and we were panicked. I then could tell that it was lodged in his throat but he was breathing so that made me feel a bit better. neil finally stuck his finger down his throat to try and get it out and it made Will gag and he threw up a bit and it came lose. He was then able to swallow it. It was so scarey and something I never want to go through again. I really feel like God was teling me something, to be careful. There are times I'll get his breakfast ready then run to the bathroom to go pee. Never again. I shudder to think what would have happened had I not been there. And of course, we were still shaking about it an hour later, but right after he swallowed it he got back in his chair to finish the sandwich! our first thought was to not let him, but we didn't want to freak him out anymore so we just watched him and made sure he took really small bites. I just wanted to keep giving him hugs last night.

It's official

Potty training sucks. Will is doing pretty well with the peeing but the pooping is another story. He doesn't want to go in his diaper but he doesn't want to go on the potty either so he will hold it for 2-4 days. When he finally poops it's the nastiest, smelliest thing you've ever seen. I seriously gag and now Neil has poop duty because I can't hanfle it anymore!

The other day we convinced him to sit on his little potty out in the living room and try to go poop. He kept doing the "poop dance:" so we knew he had to go. He would sit on it (with Gabby by his side in her "potty", LOL!) and everytime he felt the poop coming he'd jump up! Finally the poop actually did start to come and he jumped up again. There was poop on the seat and his butt and I sat him back down quickly. He then started crying because he didn't like it, but the poop was still coming. And then he started to pee! But he didn't push his penis down so it shot straight out on his pants, floor, everywhere! Neil and I were jumping up and down happy because he was pooping but also freaking out because there was poop and pee everywhere! Will is crying because he's upset about the pee and the poop and Gabby is in her chair just chilling.

We finally go him off the chair and I had the lovely task of cleaning the poop up. Another gag job. After all of this I thought he'd start going on the potty more but now he holds it for up to 4 days. This is so much fun.

Preschool!

Ok, so he's not offically in a real preschool. But they are doing preschool at daycare two days a week. This week they learned the letter A and did an art project. We got a list of supplies that he needed and it made it seem like he was such a big boy. It doesn't seem like that long ago that he looked like Gabby, sleeping on my chest with his arms waving about and grunting and making cute noises. And now I'm buying him sissors and glue? Makes me want to treasure this time with Gabby that much more. I remember with Will I was so axious for him to grow up and reach milestones but I know Gabby is my last and I don't want this time to go to quickly.
